Scott Bessent promised an "economic offensive" capable of isolating Iran and punishing also those who continue to do business with Tehran. A week later, China continues to buy crude, Iranian banks remain open in Emirates and commercial flights maintain their routes. The big problem for Washington is obvious: to really asphyxiate Iran would have to face China.
