More than 50,000 people renounce each year to receive an inheritance due to them, a phenomenon that is due to different causes, from the fear that debts will exceed what is inherited from the volume of the fiscal burden of succession or avoid "lios" with distant relatives.

According to the data of the General Council of the Notary, the renunciations of inheritances - calculated as each of the heirs that have repudiated, so that there may be several renunciations for the same inheritance and that still finally someone has accepted it - have increased progressively since 37,625 in 2015 to about 55,000 annually since 2021.
