UNITED STATES, JUL 23 – A Common Sense Media study shows over 70% of U.S. teens have used AI companions for advice, emotional support, and companionship amid concerns about mental health impacts.
- Teens say they are increasingly interacting with AI as if it were a companion, seeking advice, emotional support and help with everyday decision-making and problem-solving.
- More than 70% of teens have used AI companions, and half use them regularly, as per a study by Common Sense Media.
- The study found AI companions can produce sexual material, give dangerous advice and offer harmful content, while 31% of teens said conversations with AI were 'as satisfying or more satisfying' than talking with real friends.
