Civale Costing Cubs $546,150 — $250,000 over Prorated Share of Major League Minimum
The Cubs will pay $546,150 of Civale’s remaining salary, while the Athletics cover the rest in a deal for minor league right-hander Aiden Moffett.
On Saturday, the Chicago Cubs reacquired 31-year-old right-hander Aaron Civale from the Athletics, trading minor league right-hander Aiden Moffett to secure the veteran pitcher.
The Athletics designated Civale for assignment last week after he posted a 5-7 record and 5.42 ERA in 15 starts for the team.
Chicago will pay $546,150 for the remainder of the season, while the A's agreed to pay the Cubs $1,731,925 as part of the trade details.
Civale pitched the final 2 1/3 innings during Tuesday's 11-2 win over Detroit, allowing a two-run home run to Dillon Dingler while protecting a nine-run lead.
Returning to the Cubs, Civale previously recorded a 2.08 ERA in five relief appearances last year, including 4 1/3 scoreless postseason innings against Milwaukee.
