Studio 54 creator opens new WeHo hotel — and $35 gets you access to its lush rooftop oasis
The 137-room hotel includes a 14,000-square-foot rooftop park and a $35 day pass for non-guests.
On October 30, lifestyle impresario Ian Schrager opened Public West Hollywood, a 137-room hotel occupying the 1962 building that previously housed the Standard Hotel for more than 20 years.
Originally the Thunderbird Inn, the structure evolved through multiple identities before Schrager transformed it, reinforcing walls to create a 14,000-square-foot park-like rooftop relaxation zone for up to 400 guests.
Featuring 14,000 square feet of outdoor space, the hotel offers guest rooms with 11-foot-wide projectors instead of televisions, reflecting Schrager's vision of "luxury for all" at rates starting at about $450.
Approximately 75% of the public space is designed outdoors to suit Southern California, while Highgate Hotels manages the property and offers cultural programming including Pilates and sound baths.
Schrager plans to open three additional hotels in Manhattan, with the first expected to debut within 18 months as he expands his Public Hotels brand.
