Stryker Plans $400 Million Investment in CMR Surgical - FINCHANNEL
The deal gives Stryker an exclusive U.S. sales role for Versius and an option to buy the rest of CMR Surgical later.
On Monday, October 12, 2026, Stryker announced a strategic equity investment of approximately $400 million in CMR Surgical, establishing Stryker as the exclusive United States sales agent for the Versius robotic portfolio.
The alliance combines CMR's modular Versius platform with Stryker's scale and customer relationships, helping healthcare providers manage growing demand for robotic-assisted surgery while maintaining operational flexibility.
Stryker secured an exclusive option to acquire 100% of CMR's outstanding equity in the future, while Andy Pierce, Group President of Medsurg and Neurotechnology at Stryker, will join the CMR board of directors.
Analyst Robbie Marcus noted the investment helps Stryker enter the soft-tissue market, targeting smaller facilities like ASCs rather than competing directly against Intuitive's market-leading da Vinci system.
CMR has performed more than 45,000 procedures globally after receiving FDA clearance for gallbladder surgeries in the United States, a move experts describe as a strategic "now or never" decision for Stryker.
