'Stranger Things' prequel 'Other Worlds' coming to Netflix in 2028
- On Friday, Netflix announced a live-action prequel titled 'Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure' set in 1955 Marion, Nevada, coinciding with Stranger Things Day, marking the date Will Byers disappeared in the original series.
- Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer developed the concept since 2022, serving as co-creators alongside longtime writer Kate Trefry while maintaining their overall deal at Paramount.
- Golden Globe-winning director Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes, while Trefry serves as showrunner and executive producer, having written the stage play 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow.'
- Slated for a 2028 debut, the series features 'all-new characters, themes and mythology,' with producers describing the upcoming project as 'thrillingly fresh' and exploring a new setting.
- This marks the fourth project in the 'Stranger Things' franchise, joining the original series, the animated 'Stranger Things: Tales From '85,' and the stage production, with filming in New Mexico.
