Storm Boelo latest: Rail passengers told 'do not travel' and flood alerts issued as storm hits UK
Storm Boelo continues disrupting rail services across the North West on Monday, October 26, as Network Rail engineers clear debris and repair damaged overhead wiring throughout the region.
The storm brought widespread gusts of 50 to 60mph to northern Britain, prompting Network Rail North West route director Chris Wright to state, "Safety is our number one priority."
Passengers face cancellations and delays on routes including Leeds to York and Preston to Barrow, with Northern Rail, Avanti West Coast, and TransPenine Express advising travellers to check National Rail Enquiries.
Beyond rail infrastructure, Electricity North West reported 6,761 properties affected by power cuts, while Cumbria Police managed fallen tree incidents on the A591 and A593.
A fresh Met Office yellow weather warning for wind in Cumbria begins Tuesday, October 27, while Electricity North West estimates restoration for 3,359 properties by 6pm, with 469 others under review.
One person died, tens of thousands of households were deprived of electricity, and the transports were disrupted during the weekend by the Boelo storm in the United Kingdom, reports AFP.
