Nick Townsend Scores 25 to Lead Stanford to 81-63 Victory over Oakland
Stanford shot 9 of 27 from 3-point range and outscored Oakland 27-9 beyond the arc as Nick Townsend added 25 points.
On Friday, Nick Townsend scored a game-high 25 points and Christian Bliss added 17 to lead Stanford past visiting Oakland 81-63, securing the Cardinal's second win of the season.
After Oakland's William Kassi narrowed the deficit to 40-39 early in the second half, Stanford's superior perimeter shooting took over, with the team connecting on nine of 27 three-point attempts to gradually pull away.
Coming off the bench, Bliss recorded 17 points, four 3-pointers, and eight rebounds, while Aidan Cammann contributed 13 points as the Cardinal outscored the Golden Grizzlies 27-9 from beyond the arc.
Chris Fields Jr. scored a team-high 23 points for the Golden Grizzlies, but Oakland's teammates combined to shoot 13-for-37 from the field and just 17.6% from 3-point range, limiting any comeback threat.
Stanford improves to 2-0 with the victory, while Oakland falls to 0-2 and continues the second of five consecutive road games to open their season.
