Stalled $1.15T Bill Has More than $800M for Tarheel State, Raises of 5% to 7%
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the fiscal year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, authorizing $1.15 trillion for national defense spending with over $800 million allocated to military bases in North Carolina, including Marine bases and Fort Bragg.
This defense spending package is 27.7% larger than the previous year's budget allocation.
The bill passed with a vote of 216-212; North Carolina Democratic Representatives Deborah Ross, Valerie Foushee, and Alma Adams opposed it, while Democratic Representative Don Davis voted with Republicans.
The bill authorizes pay raises of 7% for junior enlisted personnel, 6% for mid-level enlisted and junior officers, and 5% for senior officers and above.
