Creative Director McGirr to Leave McQueen After 3 Years
Kering said it will name new creative leadership soon as Alexander McQueen retrenches after layoffs and a downsized retail network.
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, French luxury group Kering announced that creative director Seán McGirr is departing Alexander McQueen, with new creative leadership to be named soon.
McGirr's exit follows an uneven three-year collaboration, occurring amid a substantial retrenchment involving layoffs and a downsizing of the retail network.
McQueen generated less than €200 million in 2025, down sharply from a €850 million peak, while closing 20 stores in the first half and targeting 50 per cent fewer locations by end of 2026.
Kering CEO Luca de Meo thanked McGirr for his "contribution and dedication," while McQueen president and CEO Gianfranco D'Attis praised the designer's vision and McGirr said, "I look forward to my next chapter."
The group recently announced the departure of Anthony Vaccarello from Saint Laurent after an acclaimed 10-year tenure, as Kering continues reshaping its creative ranks across its portfolio.
