Sal Stewart’s 3-Run Homer Helps the Reds Rally to Beat the Cardinals 5-4
Stewart drove in three runs with his 27th homer as Cincinnati erased a two-run deficit and held on after Jordan Walker’s ninth-inning shot.
On Wednesday, the Cincinnati Reds rallied to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4, powered by a three-run home run from first baseman Sal Stewart in the sixth inning.
Wednesday's matchup marked the fourth game of a rare five-game series between the division rivals, following a 3-0 victory for St. Louis on Tuesday.
Stewart's 27th homer of the season traveled 422 feet, erasing a two-run deficit against St. Louis starter Matthew Liberatore, who struck out nine batters in the loss.
Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker hit his 25th home run in the ninth inning, but Reds closer Emilio Pagan secured the win by retiring Masyn Winn to end the game.
The teams conclude their five-game set on Thursday, with St. Louis right-hander Michael McGreevy scheduled to face Cincinnati right-hander Brady Singer in the series finale.
