Kenyan Sabastian Sawe won his first marathon in Valencia with 2:02:05 and is now the fifth fastest in history. The half-marathon world champion also achieved the best time of the season in the world. The twenty-eight-year-old finished ahead of Ethiopian Deres Gelet (2:02:38) and compatriot Daniel Mateik (2:04:24).
