Rick Hansen Guest of Honour at Exclusive Documentary Screening in Williams Lake
Rick Hansen’s gala screening raised thousands for his foundation and previewed a documentary that follows his 26-month global wheelchair journey.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, Rick Hansen returned to his hometown of Williams Lake for a gala screening of the documentary Man in Motion: The Rick Hansen Story at the Gibraltar Room.
Hansen sought community support in Williams Lake before launching his 26-month global wheelchair journey in March 1985, following his 1973 spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Directed by Canadian filmmaker Adrian Buitenhuis and produced by Ryan Reynolds, the documentary chronicles Hansen's travels; the gala featured live music from Ebony and an auction supporting The Rick Hansen Foundation.
The Rick Hansen Foundation announced the documentary will receive a special event release in selected theatres across Canada on Nov. 1 and 3.
Williams Lake is preparing for the 40th anniversary of Hansen's tour visit next April while setting accessibility priorities for the next 15 years to expand inclusion beyond visual, hearing, and cognitive challenges.
