Blue Wave Felt in Montana, Republicans Maintain Legislative Control
Republicans won several legislative races by wide margins, preserving control of House and Senate seats despite a statewide Democratic gain.
In the Tuesday, Nov. 3, election, Republicans maintained control of Minnesota House and Senate seats in the Brainerd Lakes area while the nation experienced a broader Democratic wave.
Incumbent Republican Keri Heintzeman secured 62.02% of the vote to defeat DFLer Denise Slipy, while Nathan Wesenberg and Mike Wiener won their respective Senate seats with 30,655 and 30,380 votes respectively.
House races saw similar outcomes, as incumbent Ben Davis retained his seat with over 62% of the vote, and Josh Heintzeman defeated DFL candidate Nicky Hardy with 12,785 votes to hold his position.
Following the results, Slipy congratulated her opponent and stated she does not plan on running again, while Davis expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and promised to remain "a conservative voice" in St. Paul.
Despite a broader national blue wave that saw Democratic victories elsewhere, the Brainerd Lakes area results demonstrate the continued strength of Republican candidates in these local districts.
