Remakes and new games "both have a place in the stable" says Nintendo boss, buoyed by the success of Star Fox and Ocarina of Time

Nate Bihldorff said new games and remakes are equally important as Star Fox sold 1.17 million copies worldwide on Switch 2.

  • Nintendo senior vice president of product development and publishing Nate Bihldorff told Polygon that wholly new games and remakes of classics are of "equal importance" to the publisher going forward.
  • Both Star Fox and Ocarina of Time have commanded significant attention over the past 12 months, marking a banner year for remakes as the company leans into nostalgic titles.
  • Star Fox has sold 1.17 million copies worldwide since its launch earlier this year on the Switch 2, making it the ninth best-selling game on the platform according to financials released yesterday.
  • Zelda producer Hidemaro Fujibayashi said the Switch 2 hardware allowed developers to realize Ocarina of Time in ways mid-90s technology could not, enabling thorough exploration of classic gameplay and design.
  • Bihldorff emphasized the strength of Nintendo's release pipeline, stating, "it doesn't matter how excited I am about Donkey Kong Bananza at launch; there's always going to be more games that are coming down the pipeline.
