Oswaldo Cabrera Agrees to $1 Million, 1-Year Contract with Cincinnati Reds
Cabrera went 4-for-13 in four games with Cincinnati and played third base, shortstop and left field, impressing the club with his versatility.
On Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds signed utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera to a one-year, $1 million contract, avoiding arbitration with the 27-year-old.
The Reds claimed Cabrera off waivers from the New York Yankees on September 18 after finishing a 75-87 season; management stated, "We have to get tougher."
During his four-game stint with Cincinnati, Cabrera recorded four hits, including two doubles, in 13 at-bats while playing third base, shortstop, and left field.
The contract includes $200,000 in performance bonuses, with $50,000 payouts triggered at 200, 300, 400, and 500 plate appearances.
With a potential December 1 labor lockout looming, the Reds are prioritizing smaller, internal moves to build toward future contention.
