Hearing Date Set for Recall Petition Against Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson
The judge will decide whether the recall charges meet legal standards and can move toward a ballot, after prosecutors completed their review.
A King County Superior Court judge will hold a public hearing on Aug. 31 to evaluate the recall petition against Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson.
Seattle residents Melinda Jacobson and Dale Osterud filed the recall charge on Aug. 11, alleging the mayor "is derelict in her duties for public safety of the city of Seattle."
The petition cites the mayor's handling of the Bite of Seattle shooting that killed three people, persistent downtown crime, and the decision to deactivate CCTV cameras after the World Cup.
King County Superior Court Judge Patrick Oishi will determine if the alleged acts meet the legal criteria for "malfeasance" or "misfeasance," required for the recall to proceed.
Should the judge approve the petition, supporters will have 180 days to collect roughly 69,000 eligible signatures to place the recall on a ballot.
