- Global bidding between Japan and China drove the price to nearly 12 times the estimate. Three family members attended, watching as the hammer fell at £59,000.
- The watch sold to a phone bidder in Hong Kong. Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said, "A watch which had been treasured in Cornwall for generations will now begin an entirely new chapter thousands of miles away in Hong Kong."
- Darren Ashley, senior valuer at Hansons Cornwall, emphasized the piece's rarity, noting that "something extraordinary can still be sitting quietly in a jewellery box just a few miles away.
