A Warsaw court has sentenced a man accused of the brutal rape and murder of a young woman in central Warsaw to life in prison. The victim, 25-year-old Liza from Belarus, died of her injuries after five days in hospital. The crime, committed in February last year, shocked the entire country. Today's verdict was reported by Polish media, which, in accordance with the law, identified the convicted person only by his first name and initials.
A 23-year-old Pole who brutally raped and murdered a young woman in central Warsaw last February was sentenced to life in prison in court on Friday. The victim, 25-year-old Liza from Belarus, died of her injuries after five days in hospital. The crime shocked Poland at the time. “It is important to forget the defendant as soon as possible, to erase him from memory so that the evil he committed does not become an attraction,” the judge said.
The trial of Dorian S. began on December 4 and was largely held behind closed doors.
– I have the impression that during the trial we forgot about Liza herself. The focus was mainly on how the perpetrator felt at the time of rape and murder and what kind of person he is – the relatives of the brutally attacked 25-year-old Lizaweta tell us. The verdict in this case will be announced today, January 17. Dorian S. faces life in prison.
