Inside 'Major Dispute' that Ended Rangers Transfer Deal with Attacker 'Disillusioned'
Rangers had agreed personal terms and a £7 million deal, but chiefs pulled out after a medical found a slight injury.
Rangers cancelled the £7 million transfer of PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech after a medical examination flagged an issue preventing his immediate availability, ending his planned move to the Govan club.
Manager Derek McInnes sought immediate attacking reinforcements amid a defensive crisis, prompting Rangers officials to decline waiting for Driouech's recovery and pull the plug on the deal.
PSV technical director Earnest Stewart revealed Driouech is "deeply upset" after 48 hours of uncertainty, disputing Rangers' injury timeline and stating the recovery period was six weeks, considerably shorter than Rangers estimated.
After travelling to Glasgow to watch Thursday's Europa League clash with Jagiellonia Bialystok, Driouech will miss PSV's Sunday match against Excelsior but will rejoin the squad soon, PSV head coach Peter Bosz said.
Rangers crashed out of the Europa League with a 3-2 aggregate defeat and fell five points behind Celtic, intensifying urgency for reinforcements as star striker Youssef Chermiti faces a season-long absence.
Everything seemed to be all set, yet the transfer of PSV attacker Couhaib Driouech to Rangers FC collapsed on Friday. He was already at the Scottish club's stadium on Thursday, but a disagreement arose between the clubs and the player. Scottish sources report that Driouech may be unavailable for a short period and that a major dispute has arisen regarding this. It is already the fourth time in five months that a PSV transfer has fallen through.
