Qatari mediators present Iran with new deal to end the war, official says
The plan includes daily confidence-building steps and several guarantors as Tehran weighs a response by week’s end, officials said.
On Sunday, Qatari mediators presented Iran with a new draft agreement aimed at ending the eight-month war with the U.S. and Israel, with Tehran expected to deliver a formal response by the end of the week.
Escalating tensions, including President Donald Trump's threats on October 23 and Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's largest oil refinery, have intensified pressure for mediation as oil prices surged above $115 per barrel.
A senior Iranian official dismissed the initiative as containing "unacceptable ideas and not an offer," asserting that Tehran's policy on nuclear flexibility remains unchanged despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Separately, officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan met Iranian leaders in Tehran on Monday to coordinate de-escalation efforts, reflecting widening regional concern over the conflict's spillover.
The conflict has cost the U.S. military at least $47.1 billion as of mid-October, adding financial pressure for a diplomatic solution before potential escalation following the U.S. midterm elections.
