In response to questions from the agency Lusa, the guardianship emphasizes that the Aerodrome Militar de Tancos, located in the municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha, district of Santarém, is an infrastructure of the Army that needs investments for the requalification of the runway, tower and buildings, in order to guarantee its military potential and also allow civilian use, "in terms that do not affect its primary military vocation".
Investment of EUR 500 million provides for the installation of a pilot school in the base of Tancos. The project could create jobs and bring new opportunities closer to the interior, says Ricardo Oliveira.
The ministry protected by Nuno Melo points out that other military airfields in Portugal already allow civilian use in larger or smaller dimensions, taking into account the evaluation of different criteria, "as long as they do not harm the primarily military function"
