Former Colchester schoolboy is the hero in inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup Final

Indonesia defeated Thailand 4-2 on penalties to win the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta after a 2-2 draw in extra time.
This victory ends Indonesia's nearly decade-long wait for a win over Thailand, marking their first success since December 14, 2016, when they defeated Thailand 2-1 in the first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup final.
Former Colchester schoolboy Elkan Baggott scored in extra time and the penalty shootout, securing the title before a crowd of more than 70,000, while Thailand played with 10 men after defender Nicholas Mickelson was sent off in the 80th minute.
President Prabowo Subianto attended the match in person, accompanied by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who had specifically invited the President to witness the closing ceremony.
