Police Appeal After Under-2 Injured by Firework in Carrickmore
Police say four mid-teen boys threw fireworks outside a petrol station, leaving a child under 2 with a burn injury that needed hospital treatment.
On Saturday, October 31, a child under two sustained a forearm burn requiring hospital treatment after a firework exploded near her in Carrickmore, Co Tyrone.
Reports indicate four youths in dark tracksuits threw fireworks outside a Main Street petrol station at 8:30 PM, where one device partially exploded, bounced back, and detonated a second time.
Local policing Inspector McDonagh described the incident as a "reckless act," noting it was only by "sheer luck" the consequences were not more serious, and called the behavior "shocking."
Officers are appealing for witnesses to identify the four youths, requesting information via reference 1724 or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service responded to 89 incidents on Halloween night, including 23 bonfires and six separate events where fireworks were "intentionally directed" at attending fire crews.
