At the memorial site of the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the victims of the genocide of the Sinti and Roma by the National Socialists were commemorated. The chairman of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma, Rose, spoke at the commemoration of a resurgence of violent anti-Gypsyism in Germany.
On the night of August 2-3, 1944, the SS exterminated all the Sinti and Roma still alive in the camp: 4,300 people, including children.
