Greenpeace Turkey: “What's Inside?” According to the campaign, 3 out of 20 tomato samples taken from 5 grocery chains in Istanbul had detected the use of pesticides contrary to the legislation.
Laboratory analyses conducted by Greenpeace Türkiye on tomato samples collected from chain supermarkets in Istanbul revealed that 15% of the products contained pesticides that violated regulations, and 70% contained substances including PFAS (Propaganda-Flavored Particulate Filters).
Greenpeace found that PFAS was present in 14 out of 20 tomatoes purchased from chain supermarkets in Istanbul. Analyses revealed that even products bearing the 'Good Agricultural Practices' logo were using unlicensed substances that have been banned for 14 years.
As part of the campaign, samples of tomatoes were collected from 5 chain stores in Istanbul's Sultanbeyli, Sancaktepe, Ataşehir and Kadıköy districts, according to a statement from Greenpeace Turkey.
