French Astronaut Recounts 'Astonishing' Emotions After Return to Earth
Adenot conducted 200 scientific experiments during her mission before beginning a mandatory three-week physical recovery program, European Space Agency officials said.
On Thursday, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot splashed down in the Pacific Ocean aboard the SpaceX Dragon capsule, concluding her Crew-12 mission from the International Space Station.
Adenot set a record for the longest uninterrupted orbital stay by a European astronaut, spending 237 days in space while conducting around 200 experiments aboard the ISS.
During her mission, she undertook three spacewalks and described the splashdown as "difficult," noting the capsule endured "a lot of waves for 25 minutes."
Visibly weakened upon arrival in Germany, the astronaut joked, "Send me back to space, please! It was much easier up there," while ESA physicians assisted her recovery.
Adenot must now complete an intensive 3-week recovery program in Cologne, while reflecting on the view from 400 km where she saw "no divisions, no borders" on Earth.
