Pakistan school roof collapse kills 28; more deaths feared
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, the roof of the Al-Khair Education Center in Peshawar's Dir Colony collapsed during morning classes, killing at least 28 people, including 27 students and one female teacher.
Peshawar police chief Mian Saeed confirmed the school owner's arrest, stating the building was "structurally weak" and incapable of supporting additional construction weight.
Rescue teams deployed 16 ambulances and more than 60 personnel to the site, while Lady Reading Hospital declared an emergency to treat more than 40 injured survivors.
Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated the incident "deeply pained the entire nation," as provincial authorities formed a committee to investigate the collapse cause.
Building collapses are common across Pakistan due to poor safety standards and substandard construction materials, with similar tragedies reported in June and July this year.
On Thursday, the roof of a school collapsed in Pakistan, killing at least 34 students and one teacher. It is feared that the number of victims may increase.
