Ousseni Bouda has early goal and assist to lead Earthquakes to 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake
Ousseni Bouda had a goal and an assist in the first 17 minutes as San Jose snapped Real Salt Lake’s three-game win streak.
The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 at PayPal Park on Saturday, snapping the visitors' three-game win streak as Ousseni Bouda recorded a goal and an assist in the first 17 minutes.
In the 2nd minute, the Earthquakes jumped in front on an unassisted goal by Bouda off a free kick, then doubled their lead in the 17th minute when Bouda and Preston Judd set up Benji Kikanovic for a fast-break goal.
Real Salt Lake cut the deficit in the 23rd minute on a goal by first-year defender Juan Manuel Sanabria, but goalkeeper Rafael Cabral's three saves could not overcome the early two-goal deficit.
The loss, compounded by the Los Angeles Galaxy's 4-1 victory over Austin, knocked Real Salt Lake out of a playoff spot heading into the final regular-season match.
Real Salt Lake hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy on Decision Day, while the San Jose Earthquakes travel to Minnesota United to conclude their regular season schedule.
