Northwest Minnesota group searches for the elusive Bigfoot
The Northern Minnesota Bigfoot Organization says the search began after a 2019 camping trip uncovered footprints twice the length of Kniefel’s hand.
Nathan Kniefel, founder of the Northern Minnesota Bigfoot Organization, leads a team investigating alleged Sasquatch sightings across northern Minnesota alongside Brent Ekstrom and Christopher Mathisen, who conduct regular expeditions.
During a winter 2019 camping trip in Hubbard County, Minnesota, Kniefel discovered large footprints near his tent; his hand measured about 8 inches while the footprint was twice that long, prompting him to form the organization.
Reports describe the creature as 6 to 7 feet tall and "covered in dark brown fur," with sightings spanning the region. Remer, a town of 381, brands itself "Home of Bigfoot" due to alleged creature sightings stretching back to the early 1900s.
Members call their outings "expeditions" while searching for physical evidence, with Mathisen believing the creature is "way smarter than we fathom," explaining why it remains difficult to photograph.
Despite decades of reports in North America, including a 2017 sighting in Ellendale, North Dakota, conclusive proof remains elusive. The team continues researching sightings in northwest Minnesota, hoping technology will eventually catch up with the enduring legend.
