North Dakota State has won at a record rate at the lower levels. The Bison are rumbling into the FBS
The Bison enter the Football Bowl Subdivision after 10 national titles and a 9-5 record against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents.
North Dakota State begins its Football Bowl Subdivision era on Saturday, hosting Jacksonville State in its first game at the highest level of college football.
Athletic Director Matt Larsen recalled deciding to pursue the move after realizing the program needed a new challenge, stating, "If we don't make this move, this might be the norm."
Private donors funded the $12.5 million Mountain West entry fee and $5 million NCAA reclassification fee, with alumnus Tom Blattner contributing $15 million toward a $54 million indoor facility.
The transition includes adding 22 scholarships and doubling the operating budget from 2025 expenses of about $8 million to address increased travel and competitive upgrades.
NDSU will make its Mountain West debut on Sept. 12 at Air Force, with fans anticipating road trips to Las Vegas, Honolulu, and Northern California.
