NASA Names Astronauts for Crew-13 Mission to International Space Station
The four-person crew will conduct science and technology demonstrations to prepare for future Moon and Mars missions, NASA said.
- On Thursday, NASA announced the crew members for the SpaceX Crew-13 mission, which will launch no earlier than mid-September to the International Space Station featuring four astronauts from three space agencies.
- NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins will command the mission, marking her second flight after spending 170 days on a previous expedition, while Volusia County native Luke Delaney will serve as pilot in his first spaceflight.
- Joining the flight are Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov, who will serve as mission specialists; both are first-time space travelers embarking on their inaugural spaceflight.
- Advancing the launch schedule from November to September allows NASA to increase the frequency of crew rotations, while the team will conduct scientific investigations and technology demonstrations for future Moon and Mars missions.
- Upon arrival, the four crew members will join Expedition 75 to continue decades of continuous research aboard the International Space Station, building on more than 25 years of human presence advancing scientific knowledge.
