Mystery after body found in bushland in suburban park
Police cannot rule out the dogs’ involvement as detectives investigate how a 48-year-old man died after a runner was mauled nearby.
On Sunday, Queensland Police discovered the body of a 48-year-old man in bushland near Brigade Park, off KittyHawk Dr in Chermside about midday. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities had been searching the area after a 37-year-old runner was mauled by two dogs on Friday night. Both animals were captured and are now in Brisbane City Council custody.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said police "simply don't know" if the dogs contributed to the death, citing the body's decomposition state. Police cannot rule out the animals' involvement in the man's death.
"We are particularly appealing for any person who may have heard anything unusual in the park vicinity between 4pm and 6pm on Friday afternoon," Detective Massingham said. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
Forensic sampling and analysis are underway to determine the cause of death. Massingham noted the deceased often slept rough in makeshift camps within the park area.
