B.C. Man Arrested, Charged in 2022 Double Homicide in Metro Vancouver
Police say the victims were reported missing before evidence led to charges after a four-year investigation.
- On Friday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team arrested 27-year-old Mohammed Arif Ansari and charged him with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of indignity to human remains in the 2022 Burnaby double homicide.
- Burnaby RCMP located the bodies of Kiesha Garie and Umair Kasim inside a vehicle near Alpha Secondary School on October 17, 2022, after both victims from Coquitlam had been reported missing.
- Investigators believe the incident was a targeted homicide, as the accused and victims knew each other; the case required a complex investigation involving IHIT, Burnaby RCMP, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.
- As the matter is now before the courts, police have released no further information, while officials acknowledged the profound impact the homicides had on the victims' families.
- The approval of charges marks a significant milestone following three years of persistent evidence collection and analysis by investigators to piece together the circumstances surrounding the homicides.
