Police arrest one of Canada's 25 most wanted fugitives in Surrey
Chad Jason Dandan is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion after police said the final suspect in Zeyad Shammo’s killing was captured.
- British Columbia's Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit arrested Chad Jason Dandan in Surrey, marking the capture of the final suspect in the 2024 homicide of 22-year-old Zeyad Shammo from Ontario.
- Police launched the investigation after receiving reports of an abduction on September 9, 2024, leading to the discovery of Shammo's body on Bristol Avenue; suspects Sonny Balemba and Robert James Chaykowski were previously charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and extortion.
- Dandan was ranked number seven on the BOLO Program's most wanted list and had been "attempting to evade detection by concealing his identity," police said; officers' "training and vigilance led to his arrest," according to Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, CFSEU-BC Media Relations Officer.
- Now returned to Winnipeg, Dandan remains in custody facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and extortion. Local authorities coordinated with the Winnipeg Police Service regarding custody proceedings.
- BOLO Program Director Maxime Langlois stated, "Together, we make our communities safer," as the collaborative enforcement operation successfully concluded the search for all individuals connected to the 2024 homicide.
