In statements to journalists in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Luís Montenegro considered that the requirement made by the PS Secretary-General, José Luís Carneiro, on the revision of the income law is a general political position and not indexed to the position on the State budget.

The Prime Minister today refused to enter a "pinch competition" on the next EU budget, warning that it will be "intransigent" with cuts in cohesion policy and stressing that Portugal contributes more in proportional terms than the 'frugal' countries.
