Florida Mom Arrested for Leaving 4 Kids Home Alone During 6-Day Las Vegas Work Trip, Deputies Say
Deputies said the 50-year-old left four children alone for nearly a week while working in Las Vegas, and one child was hurt by a falling dumbbell.
- On Friday, the Osceola County Sheriff arrested 50-year-old Irene Miller at Orlando International Airport after she returned from a Las Vegas work trip, facing four counts of child neglect.
- Deputies began investigating on Wednesday after a child called 911 reporting her 9-year-old brother was struck in the head by a falling dumbbell at their Parkway Boulevard home in Kissimmee.
- Miller told deputies she arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to help the children prepare for school each morning and check on them afterward, but the sitter did not stay overnight.
- Following the discovery, deputies contacted the children's father, who took all four children to his residence; Miller was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
- Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon stated the office will not tolerate child neglect, saying, "These cases will be investigated" and charges will be brought against parents who fail to properly supervise their children.
