Judge Sets Trial Date for Missouri Redistricting Referendum, Initiative Petition Amendment

- The political action committee People Not Politicians filed a lawsuit challenging the decision, arguing the constitution's silence permits a referendum. Opponents have lost or been stymied in over a dozen lawsuits questioning the map's legality.
- Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green set the first hearing for Wednesday morning, complying with the Supreme Court's directive. Whatever he decides, Powell wrote the case is likely to be appealed.
- This lawsuit represents the final opportunity to overturn the gerrymandered redistricting plan before the Nov. 3 election. If the court upholds Hoskins' decision, the map favoring Republicans in the 5th Congressional District will remain in effect.
