Carrick and Fernandes Meet to 'Clear the Air'
Carrick is trying to steady Manchester United after Fernandes questioned his tactics, while the captain is set to return to the starting lineup.
Following extensive internal discussions, Manchester United confirmed manager Michael Carrick will remain in his post on Tuesday after co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Avram and Joel Glazer and chief executive Omar Berrada addressed the situation.
Tensions escalated following a dismal 4-1 Champions League loss to Como and 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, after which Portuguese captain Bruno Fernandes was benched for publicly criticizing Carrick's tactics.
Carrick held face-to-face discussions ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where Fernandes is now expected to return to the starting lineup in west London.
Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes stated, "What Bruno Fernandes said last week, I think that's unforgivable," and suggested the captain needs to "get away from European football and just go to Saudi."
Pressure remains intense unless United can halt their winless run, though the club intends to tackle the matter between manager and captain "head-on" after the weekend.
