Renowned Mappila music composer Kozhikode Aboobacker has passed away at eighty. He was known as the ‘Sultan of Mappila Songs’ and leaves a vast legacy. Aboobacker once helped a young Vijay Yesudas record a song for his birthday. K J Yesudas was surprised by his son’s beautiful rendition of the Mappila passage. His extensive career produced over three thousand melodies for the tradition.
