Barrie man charged with murder of partner following missing persons’ investigation
Antonio Chimienti, 46, faces second-degree murder and drug possession charges after Sacha Charles was found dead in a case police classify as femicide.
Barrie police said Sacha Charles was found dead and investigators determined the death is intimate partner violence, treating it as femicide.
Sacha Charles and her common-law spouse Antonio Chimienti were last seen in the last week of October in the McVeigh Drive, Barrie area, believed to be operating a U-Haul cube truck.
Antonio Chimienti has been charged with second-degree murder and possession under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Barrie police say the victim's spouse is implicated.
Barrie police Chief Rich Johnston said, 'Today, our city is in mourning.' Police offered deepest condolences to Sacha Charles' family and friends and recognized the devastating impact on the Barrie community.
Chimienti was arrested without incident in the Stouffville area and returned to Barrie, held pending a bail hearing; police urge anyone with information to contact Barrie police or Crime Stoppers.
