- On Thursday, Sarawak launched a three-day cloud seeding operation deploying a Royal Malaysian Air Force C-130 aircraft to replenish hydroelectric dams and combat hazardous haze ahead of an expected dry spell in October.
- Hazardous Air Pollutant Index readings surged above 300 across seven locations in Sarawak, with the town of Serian recording a critical 475, as smoke from Indonesian forest fires degraded regional air quality.
- Meteorologist Mohd Ridzuan Adam explained that crews target cumulus clouds between 1,500m and 2,130m high using an RMAF C-130 carrying 7,200 litres of salt solution sprayed over Batang Ai, Bakun, and Murum dams.
- The SDMC urged residents to limit outdoor activities and wear haze-rated masks, while Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas cautioned that cloud seeding "cannot guarantee rain immediately after seeding."
- With dry weather expected in October, regional impacts extend beyond Sarawak as around 1.43 million students in Indonesia have shifted to remote learning due to wildfires, particularly affecting West Kalimantan.
