Major Spanish Airport Closed Until End of May with All Flights Cancelled
The closure will cancel all scheduled flights and affect thousands of British travellers, with around 30 UK routes operating each week.
Santiago-Castro Airport closed on April 23 for runway resurfacing and will remain shut until May 27, halting all air traffic and affecting thousands of British travelers to Spain.
Around 3.6 million people travel through the Spanish Airport annually, with around 30 flights operating weekly between the UK and the facility via British Airways, Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Vueling, and KLM.
Its website continues: "During this period, the airport will be closed to all air traffic, and no takeoffs or landings will take place," recommending passengers contact their airlines for rebooking.
Most flights operate from London-based airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted, while non-direct connections from Manchester are also cancelled during the closure.
For those still looking to travel, the two nearest alternatives to Santiago-Castro Airport include Vigo Airport 100 km away, with other options available around 75 km away.
