M5 traffic: Motorway closure in Gloucestershire after serious crash
National Highways said delays are about 20 minutes as emergency services remain on scene and diversions keep traffic moving around the closure.
On Wednesday, May 6, a fatal two-vehicle collision involving a white Luton van and a Volkswagen Transporter occurred on the M5 northbound between junctions 11 and 9 near Tewkesbury.
Gloucestershire Constabulary and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust responded at 12.20pm, forcing emergency services to close the northbound carriageway for 12 hours while crash investigations commenced.
The driver of the white van, a man in his 30s from Warwickshire, died at the scene; police appeal for witnesses to submit information quoting incident 227 of 6 May.
National Highways reopened the motorway early Thursday morning after investigators completed their examination, ending the three miles of congestion that disrupted traffic throughout the day.
Motorists were diverted via the A40 and A417 during the closure, and authorities continue requesting dashcam footage to support the ongoing investigation into the fatal incident.
