'Hard to Watch': Car Slams Into Florida School Bus, Becomes Wedged Underneath
The Jaguar driver was cited for following a stopped school bus too closely, part of a safety program citing two other drivers at this Lee County bus stop, officials said.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 18, a Jaguar F-Type was cited for following a Lee County school bus, after crashing into its rear near Whispering Pine Way and US 41.
- Announced in November, the BusPatrol rollout equipped the district's over 600 buses with AI stop-arm cameras, sharing evidence with the sheriff's office for citations.
- Responders say the crash occurred around 8:50 a.m.; the bus operator was taken to a local hospital, and both drivers sustained minor injuries.
- The sheriff's office pledged stepped-up patrols, with Sheriff Carmine Marceno posting `I can ensure our Traffic Unit and 4th Precinct deputies have increased patrols in this area and will not tolerate reckless driving of any kind.`
- Since BusPatrol's implementation, deputies say two drivers have already been cited at the same bus stop, highlighting early enforcement and the program's safety purpose.
