John Stamos honored with Bob Saget Legacy Award
The fundraiser raised nearly $1.1 million for scleroderma research as Stamos honored Saget’s legacy and recalled his support after a 2015 DUI arrest.
On Tuesday, actor John Stamos accepted The Bob Saget Legacy Award at The Scleroderma Research Foundation's Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine fundraiser in Beverly Hills, which raised nearly $1.1 million for research into the rare autoimmune disease.
After his sister, Gay Saget, died from systemic scleroderma in 1994 at age 47, Bob Saget became a dedicated supporter of the foundation, raising funds and awareness until his 2022 death.
During the tribute, Stamos honored his longtime friend, recalling how Saget supported him through personal struggles including his 2015 arrest. "He showed up and he loved me," Stamos said of the late actor.
His 8-year-old son, Billy, has started channeling Saget's signature humor, Stamos joked. "He's living through my son now," Stamos said, noting his son recently echoed the late comedian's style.
Supporting research into the autoimmune disease that causes skin hardening and organ damage, the fundraiser ensures Saget's philanthropic work continues. The annual event remains a critical source of funding for the foundation.
