Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Wednesday it is "very unfortunate" that the United States has imposed sanctions on Tomoko Akane, a Japanese national who heads the International Criminal Court, in Washington's latest move against the Hague-based judicial body.
The United States has added Japanese judge Tomoko Akane, the chief justice of the International Criminal Court (ICC), and Abdoulaye Seye, a senior ICC official, to its sanctions list.
By punishing the President of the International Criminal Court, Tomoko Akane, the Trump administration is taking a new course in its war against international criminal justice. Nine out of 18 judges are now targeted, threatening the very functioning of the institution.
