James Mangold’s Swamp Thing Just Got the Release Update Fans Wanted
Peter Safran said the film remains active and the script is being written as Mangold balances other projects, with no casting announced.
- On Wednesday, DC Studios co-head Peter Safran confirmed the James Mangold 'Swamp Thing' film remains in active development, telling Deadline, 'The script is being written as we speak.'
- DC Studios co-head James Gunn first announced the project as part of 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters' in 2023, though Mangold was occupied with post-production on 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' and filming 'A Complete Unknown.'
- Describing his vision, Mangold called it 'a very dark horror story' and 'a simple, clean, Gothic horror movie about this man/monster,' emphasizing it would function as a standalone film within the broader DCU.
- Addressing the development timeline, Safran stated, 'All these things take time; when you've already got a filmmaker involved, you've got to wait for their window,' while reaffirming studio commitment.
- While other major franchise projects have been scrapped or indefinitely stalled, DC Studios continues advancing its slate under Gunn and Safran, including the release of 'Clayface' this month.
