Immediate threat to structures has passed at Bald Range wildfire by Summerland
BC Wildfire Service said 384 firefighters and 10 helicopters remain on scene as crews continue patrols, mop-up and containment work.
- On Tuesday, the BC Wildfire Service demobilized structure protection equipment at The Bald Range, as the 25,230-hectare blaze west of Summerland no longer threatens structures following mop-up operations within 100 feet of homes.
- While the threat to homes has passed, the blaze remains a priority in the Brent Mountain Protected Area; BCWS continues suppression efforts as one of 197 active wildfires across the province.
- As of Thursday, BCWS has an Incident Command team, 384 firefighting personnel, 57 pieces of heavy equipment, and 10 helicopters on scene, with the Highway 97 corridor secured and fire activity minimal.
- Six evacuation orders and three evacuation alerts remain in place despite reduced structural risk, as roving initial attack crews continue to patrol areas near critical infrastructure and homes.
- Thermal scan results are guiding 24-hour operations for ground crews as they strengthen containment lines across west, north, and south flanks, while heavy equipment reinforces contingency lines ahead of forecasted winds.
